Valverde satisfied with Bilbao

Ernesto Valverde declared himself satisfied with his Athletic Bilbao team’s display in the 1-0 victory over Eibar at Ipurua.

Los Leones’s skipper Carlos Gurpegi got the decisive goal 10 minutes before half-time, one that Valverde believes could be important come the end of the season.

“This was a very important game because both sides were in a similar situation and whoever won would take a big leap forward,” he claimed at the post-match Press conference.

“Our intention was always to take the three points and we did that, so I’m very satisfied. We got stronger as the game progressed, although we should have scored more than one goal in the first half.

“I think that Eibar are in need of a positive result because when you get on a bad run then it’s very hard to turn things around.

“It was different from the first time we played them, when they were very confident, but it’s never easy to win at Ipurua.

“Today was a very dangerous game after our defeat in Europe last week, but we were strong mentally,” added Valverde.
