Marcelino: Villarreal didn’t panic

Marcelino hailed Villarreal’s response to going a goal down against Red Bull Salzburg following their 3-1 victory in the Europa League on Thursday.

Marco Djuricin’s early strike threatened to put the Yellow Submarine’s 2-1 win from the first leg of their last-32 tie in doubt, but Luciano Vietto regained his side’s aggregate lead with a brace, before Giovani Dos Santos rounded off a comprehensive away success.

“We’re a dangerous team if we’re given space and knew that when their intensity levels dropped, we’d find them,” said the Coach after the game.

“[The first half] was difficult against a team, who were intense, dangerous and pushed lots of players forward.

“I liked that after the setback of Salzburg’s goal, the team showed calmness and were able to level the match.

“Furthermore, we wanted the win [more] in the second half. That left Gio [Dos Santos] to do what he had to do.”
