Emery praises Sevilla intensity

Unai Emery was impressed by the intensity shown by Sevilla during their 1-0 victory over Borussia Monchengladbach in the Europa League on Thursday.

Vicente Iborra’s goal in the second half secured the Andalucians a first-leg advantage ahead of the return fixture in Germany next week, and the Coach was impressed by his side’s desire to make their presence count.

“Borussia are a great team, it’s no coincidence that they’re third in the Bundesliga. It was a tough match,” he issued to reporters.

“We had to win and we did, we needed to keep a clean sheet and we did. I’m satisfied by the great display of my players.

“The fact we won the match has merit. We need to play like this at their stadium, but there are other factors to master. The team have grown and must keep doing so.

“[Jose Antonio] Reyes was missing because of a physical problem. The match was open, but besides quality, we also needed physicality.

“[Vicente] Iborra? He scored a goal and hasn’t lost that [goalscoring] instinct. All these contributions help us.

“Every game is different. A key to our win was the pressing we did when they had the ball. We had to be in good physical condition.

“Sergio Rico did well in another demanding match and is growing, regularly giving these type of performances and making good saves.”
