Report: Osasuna in match-fixing allegation

Osasuna could find themselves at the centre of a match-fixing probe relating to four matches in La Liga last season, according to Marca.

The Pamplona side were relegated to the Segunda at the end of the previous campaign, but the newspaper alleges their demotion came in spite of attempts to illegally preserve their Primera status.

As many as four matches could come under the spotlight, one of which has been named by Marca as Osasuna’s 1-1 draw at Espanyol in the penultimate round of 2013-14.

A figure of €1.5m, offered to the Catalans, had been reportedly agreed beforehand, although the money is understood to have never reached the club’s coffers.

However, the Basque outfit’s suspected transgressions are believed to have occurred under their former board, led by ex-President Miguel Archanco.

Spain’s anti-corruption prosecutor has been made aware of the allegations, however Osasuna are not believed to have directly manipulated all four games in question.

Additionally, Javier Aguirre, who led Osasuna to the Champions League qualifiers in 2006, was in charge of Espanyol against his former club last season and could be implicated as a result, reports Diario de Navarre.

The Mexican Coach was also involved in a match-fixing probe relating to the 2010-11 meeting Zaragoza, another of his former teams, and Levante.

Nonetheless, Marca claims the LFP is already investigating the Basque outfit, currently 12th in second tier with 30 points, for financial irregularities.
