Moyes reveals Illarra interest

David Moyes has admitted that Real Sociedad would be interested in signing Asier Illarramendi if he was made available for transfer by Real Madrid.

The midfielder left La Real for a club-record €32.2m in the summer of 2013, but there has been talk that the 24-year-old could depart the Santiago Bernabeu before the end of January, a prospect which would intrigue the Scot.

“I know [Illarra] and his abilities. It seems Madrid don’t want to use him. I’d be happy if he came [back] but I’ve not heard anything about it,” he said at a Press conference.

Speaking ahead of La Real’s visit of Eibar on Saturday, Moyes urged his team to be more decisive in their approach against their fellow Basques.

“It’s an important game for us because we’re two teams in the same area of the table,” he added.

“[Eibar] are doing well and having a good season like the last two years when they were promoted from the Segunda B.

“It’s also an important game for us because we lost three points in our last game.

“I’m focused on the next game, not Real Madrid. We will do everything possible to get the three points.

“We must play better, we need to create more chances and hope to see out the match against Eibar.

“We have to be better at creating chances. We’ve done well in defence, but scoring goals has been difficult in recent weeks so we must play better and try to create chances.

“I’ve seen some [of Eibar’s] games but almost always on video. They’ve done well these last two years.

“It’s important for a young Coach like Eibar’s to have achieved promotion to the Primera. It’s good for his career.

“My players are ready to compete, even though we’re still saddened by the outcome of last week.

“We put pressure on ourselves. We had chances to win at Granada, Levante and Rayo, but we didn’t.

“We put ourselves under pressure, but we have good players, who have the ability to win games.

“What I want is for Real have the best possible team to compete at the top of the table, which the fans can be proud of.”
