Enrique annoyed at selection posers

Barcelona boss Luis Enrique was a little annoyed at questions over his team selection following the 4-0 Copa del Rey win at Huesca.

The Asturian attended a post-match Press conference and was asked by reporters why he had not chosen players such as defender Martin Montoya and midfielder Sergi Roberto in his starting line-up.

“Unfortunately I can only play 11 and that is a problem I have as a Coach,” replied Enrique.

“It is I who decide, full stop. Sergi Roberto is a good footballer and I have complete faith in him, but I can’t kill these players. I have a squad of 23 but I can only play 11.”

Enrique stood up for Brazilian right-back Douglas, another who has been used sparingly this season and at times appeared to struggle against the minnows, whilst also saying he had been pleased with the overall performance.

“Douglas needs games, confidence and playing time. He is someone who has come into the squad and this is all new to him.

“But the team played well in the first half and the players showed their intensity, seriousness, and the necessary tempo this game required,” he noted.
