Tata: Messi “worried” over form

Former Barcelona boss Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino claims Lionel Messi is worried about his form and returning to his best.

Messi has hit seven goals in 10 La Liga games this season, admittedly good by anybody else’s standards, but Martino believes he has not been firing on all cylinders and picking up another injury is something that has been on his mind.

“Messi is worried about finding his best form. He knows it and it is bothering him,” the current Argentina boss explained in an interview with Radio America.

“What is happening with Messi is very much related to what is happening with Barcelona. Maintaining that level for so long is…. well, I don’t think we might get the chance to see him like that again.

“He’s looking for the best version of himself and I think he’s worried that he can’t express it in a footballing sense.

“He’s worried about it and between us we should all help him.”

Martino also referred to the Argentina team and Messi’s link-up on the pitch with Angel Di Maria.

“Di Maria allows Leo to have the ball and he understands that very well, so he is always searching for the final pass.

“I’m looking at how we can best play the pair of them so we can find the right balance for the team."

Leo gets on well with [Gonzalo] Higuain and Kun [Aguero] on the pitch, I know that.

“Now I have to see if he has an understanding with [Carlos] Tevez.”
