‘Eibar played with dignity’

Gaizka Garitano was largely pleased with what he saw from Eibar in the 3-0 loss to Barcelona, commending his players’ approach.

The game was goalless for an hour and Eibar could even have taken the lead, having two very good chances before half-time.

But Xavi Hernandez, Neymar and Lionel Messi found a way through, Garitano telling reporters that players of that quality will eventually succeed.

“Xavi played well but it’s not just him…Andres Iniesta, Neymar, Messi…with all that it’s hard for Barca not to play well,” he argued, AS reports.

“I saw Barca pressing, running, hungry. They gave a good showing.”

Garitano also lamented what he felt was Eibar showing too much respect to their hosts, calling for the players to add more bite to their game.

“We stood up with dignity. They didn’t beat us easily. We could have been more aggressive,” he said.

“We were too clean. To win here you have to fight more. We only got one yellow and our first foul came too late.”
