Rami pays for Valencia exit

Adil Rami has paid €500,000 of his own money to help complete a move to Milan from Valencia.

Milan chief executive Adriano Galliani told SportItalia that while the transfer hasn’t been wrapped up yet, it’s essentially a matter of time, with the centre-back taking a pay cut as well.

“The player will be at Milanello with the rest of the squad tomorrow,” Galliani said.

“We don’t have the signature yet, as the President is busy, but the agreement is very close to completion.”

Galliani added that Milan’s original offer fell short of Valencia’s demands, but Rami stepped in and made up the difference out of his own pocket.

“We improved our offer to Valencia, as the difference was made by the player to ensure the transfer. He deserves a lot of credit for that,” Galliani said.

Rami has spent the last six months at Milan, leaving Valencia on loan in the January transfer window.
