Barca squad attend Vilanova memorial

A memorial service was held at Barcelona Cathedral on Monday evening to commemorate the life of Tito Vilanova.

The former Barcelona Coach sadly lost his lengthy battle with cancer on Friday, passing away aged 45.

The service was led by the city’s cardinal archbishop Lluís Martínez Sistach, with family, friends, members of the Blaugrana board, the first-team squad and captains of each of the club’s football teams and other sports all present.

Clubs from all over Spain sent representatives to pay tribute to the tactician: Espanyol (Joan Collet), Real Madrid(Fernando Fernández Tapias and Emilio Butragueño), Mallorca (Lorenzo Serra Ferrer), Athletic Bilbao (José Ángel Iríbar), Valencia (Amadeo Salvo and Juan Sol), Real Betis (Fernando Casa and Julio Jiménez) and Sevilla (José Castro Carmona). Javier Tebas, the President of the Liga de Fútbol Profesional (LFP).

Whilst Txiki Begiristain, Eduardo Macia and Nuno Gomes were there to represent Manchester City, Fiorentina and Benfica, respectively.
