Liverpool striker Luis Suarez is top of Atletico Madrid’s list of transfer targets for the summer, reports in Spain have claimed.
AS are among those reporting that Diego Simeone is excited at the possibility of teaming Suarez with Diego Costa - or if Costa was to leave this summer, having Suarez to spearhead the Atletico attack.
Suarez was previously an Atletico target and could be so again this summer, particularly if Atletico make progress in the Champions League and want to push on next season.
Atletico are said to be encouraged by the events of last summer, when Suarez announced he wanted to leave Anfield, although he did eventually sign a new contract with the Reds.
Once the World Cup is over, Atletico will re-evaluate the landscape and their chances of landing the Uruguay international.
A number of other players have been mentioned as incoming transfers. Should Thibaut Courtois not return for next season then Atletico will go for either Getafe’s Moya or Kiko Casilla of Espanyol.
Sevilla’s Alberto Moreno has been identified as a replacement for Filipe Luis should the left-back move on and Simeone’s midfield could also be overhauled.
Axel Witsel, a player considered to be in the mould of the Coach and more ready for Atletico’s level than Joshua Guilavogui, is being considered, while it’s claimed an agreement is close for Ivan Rakitic to leave Sevilla.
Marseille’s Mathieu Valbuena and San Lorenzo youngster Angel Correa are also on the agenda, with the former to cost in the region of €8m.
