Gracia rues Osasuna chances

Javi Gracia was left in disbelief and frustration for seeing Osasuna come away from Celta Vigo with only a point to their name.

Emiliano Armenteros gave Los Rojillos an early lead at Balaidos on Sunday evening, before Roberto Torres soon after hit the post, in a first half that saw the visitors hold a majority of the chances.

However, a Lolo own goal saw Celta equalise during that first 45 and ultimately proved enough for a 1-1 result, much to the Osasuna Coach’s frustration.

“In the first half we began fine, we were calm in front of the opposing goal and generated enough chances,” Gracia began post-match.

“It seems incredible that some of the chances Oriol [Riera] had or the strike from Roberto [Torres] that hit the post did not end up in the net. Then we lost some control and the own goal from Lolo didn’t help.

“We are leave with the feeling that we were able to kill off the game in the first half and that to get in at half-time with it at 1-1, honestly was hard to accept because we had deserved much more.

“We had to suffer a little more in the second half because the opponent had more of the ball, but I think we defended well.

“We leave with a point. I prefer to leave with the feeling that we were able to do better, rather than any negative feelings.

“It is true that if today was the end of the season then we would be down [in 18th place], but it is also so that the League is not decided now and that Valladolid [in 17th] have the same number of points as us and we will progress forward.

“I do not give importance to it because we do not want to move forward under such pressure talking about the relegation zone. I think it is not fair to the team because it is not real.”
