Jemez: Cup is very prestigious

Paco Jemez has mused on Rayo Vallecano’s win over Real Valladolid, stating the Madrid side’s value of progressing in the Copa del Rey.

A 3-1 win at home to Valladolid on Thursday evening accounted for a Round of 32 second leg and aggregate win for progression in the competition, much to the Coach’s delight.

“The League is important but we are in the Cup and the fact is that it is very important to advance.” Jemez stated to reporters post-match.

“This result has to be the starting point to get three points on Sunday. The only mentality is to win. The Cup is very prestigious and we have removed the thorn from last season.

“I do not know if the result is fair or not because it is not a matter of trying to play good football. This has taken a lot of work from us to combine the two things, playing well and achieving the victory.”

The game seemed to turn on Javi Guerra’s red card for the visitors.

“No-one said anything when they sent off one of my players, I do not know what happened with the red card. It is something that the referee will have seen.

“The thing I can say is that when the team conceded the goal, they demonstrated that they would not give up.”
