Aduriz ‘did nothing’ for ban

Athletic Bilbao President Josu Urrutia has outlined the club’s frustration with the authorities for banning Aritz Aduriz for two games.

The striker was sent off at the weekend after a coming together with a Granada opponent and, whilst the club’s appeal against the decision was successful, the player still has a two-game ban to serve due to insults he directed at the referee after the red card.

“Understand that we have been left very hurt because we believe that the player has not done anything and it is unfair,” mused Urrutia to reporters today.

“The club is doubly annoyed by this penalty. In football there are those who foul and those who fake and it is those who do nothing that are being punished.

“The Committee acknowledges the error by removing the red card, but they then see it as a abuse. And that was against the decision, not the individual.

“We believe that we are right and we will continue to appeal.”
