Antonio Barragan claims it is the spirit within the dressing room that has led to Los Che’s recent four-game unbeaten run.
Adil Rami’s outburst before the away game with Granada two weeks ago, when he complained of his poor relationship with Coach Miroslav Djukic, had led to reports that all was not well within the Valencia camp.
However, defender Barragan has refuted the allegations and highlighted the ‘unity’ in the squad that has seen a marked improvement in results.
“The commitment, hard work and unity shown have been key for us and the dressing room has always been united.
“We have worked every day to improve and we must carry on doing that. The players are the first people to want everything to go well but we didn’t get off to a good start.
“The team’s position was not what we wanted so we met and talked things over. We’ll be trying hard to continue the positive momentum, ” he told reporters at the club’s Paterna training headquarters.
Barragan believes the 1-1 draw at Athletic Bilbao last weekend is a sign the players are starting to come to terms with what boss Djukic is trying to put across.
“This game showed a little of what the Coach wants, which is a team with its lines together, plenty of depth, and also players who can get between the lines to cause opponents trouble.
“It was a good performance and probably my most complete game. I felt pretty comfortable and so did the team. Djukic is a Coach who knows me and knows what I can produce.
“I always try to help the team and do my bit, so I’m very happy,” admitted the 26-year-old, before being asked how Rami had been received in the changing room.
“It’s something I’d rather not talk about. He has apologised and is a teammate but it is the club that decides, although if they consider it right we will welcome him back.
“I’ve not heard anything more about it. These things happen but it’s up to the club and I don’t want to go into it,” he replied.
