Pepe Mel felt that his Real Betis side did enough to earn a points win against Lyon on Thursday night, with disappointment for the 0-0 result.
Los Beticos hosted their Ligue 1 rivals in this opening Europa League group stage tie with their Coach convinced that they had done enough to deserve three points.
“We have worked hard to win. In football only goals are valued and we have not managed any,” Mel reflected afterwards.
“If this had been boxing, we would have won on points. To begin with a point against the toughest team in the group is good.
“We will have to fight hard with Vitoria too. We do not like the start, we are not happy with the result, but we will not take it as bad either.
“Are Lyon happy with the point? Their Coach would have to answer that. If a team has done the most to win, then it was Betis.
“I’m not the one to judge the intentions of Lyon. There were many new faces on show. We had everyone playing on message, which is what we wanted.”
