Prize money from last season’s Champions League and Europa League competitions have been published this week by UEFA.
As expected, Spain’s top earners for 2012-13 were their Champions League participants, with competition semi-finalists Real Madrid picking up just over €48m for their work last term.
Barcelona, who were also eliminated in the final four of the competition were awarded €45.5m, whilst Malaga, who were narrowly knocked out in the quarter-finals, picked up €32m cash.
Spain’s fourth team in the competition, Valencia, were awarded €30m for their run to the Round of 16.
Meanwhile, Los Che’s city rivals Levante were Spain’s top earners in the Europa League, cashing in over €5.5m for their run to the Round of 16.
Atletico Madrid’s elimination in the Round of 32 paid out just under €5.5m, whilst Athletic Bilbao’s group stage exit earned €3.2m.
Notably, the Champions League’s top earners last season were Juventus with over €65m earned, more than €10m more than winners Bayern Munich, as they and Milan benefited in the market pool share for Italy’s representatives being just between the two clubs last term,
Europa League winners Chelsea were awarded €10.7m for their success, whilst competition semi-finalists Fenerbahce were the high earners on just under €11.2m, an amount that only three teams in the Champions League eliminated at the group stage earned less than.
