Villarreal close in on Jokic

Villarreal are on the verge of signing Slovenian international Bojan Jokic from Chievo.

The 27-year-old left-back was understood to have joined Bursaspor last week after the Turks announced his signing on their official website.

However, according to a report in Marca, the player has denied any agreement and claims the only offers he has received have come from Spain and Russia.

Consequently, Villarreal are aiming to bring him to La Liga as they look to strengthen their defence following last month’s promotion to the top flight after a one-year absence.

Jokic made his debut for Trivlav Kranj in his native country aged just 17 before moving on to Gorica, Sochaux and finally Chievo in 2010, where he went on to make over 50 League appearances.

He has also represented his country 59 times and took part in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, playing in all three games.

The arrival of Jokic would provide competition for youngster Jaume Costa on the left-hand side of defence, although he can also operate as a central defender.
