Olof Mellberg could be looking for a new club this summer, with Villarreal reportedly determining not to renew his contract.
The Swedish centre-back signed for the Yellow Submarine on a free transfer from Olympiacos last summer, and was initially a regular in the first team during the side’s Segunda Division campaign last season.
However, in losing his place to Chechu Dorado and only regaining it in the 30-year-old’s injury-inflicted absence, the club have reportedly taken the decision not to hand Mellberg a new deal for next year.
The Swede, who has played for Racing Santander, Aston Villa and Juventus, will be 36 at the start of September.
