La Real look to Martino

Real Sociedad are reportedly turning to Newell’s old Boys Coach Gerardo Martino to replace Philippe Montanier this summer.

Montanier is leaving Anoeta this month, despite leading La Real to Champions League qualification, to take over at Rennes, having agreed a three-year contract.

The Basque Country outfit are thought to have already made their move to find a replacement and are reported today as at an advanced stage in negotiations with Martino.

The 50-year-old was linked with Malaga as a possible replacement for Manuel Pellegrini, but it is seen that La Real sporting director Loren is in Argentina negotiating the Coach’s signature.

Martino is reportedly keen to stay on with Newell’s until the end of their Copa Libertadores campaign, which if they make the final could run until the end of July.

Whilst Real are seen as pushing for an agreement to be reached as soon as possible and for him to arrive at the start of preseason on July 10, the possibility of Martino sending an assistant over to Anoeta to begin preparations is being floated, in the event of his absence.
