Mexico name Confederations squad

Valencia’s Andres Guardado, Mallorca’s Giovani dos Santos and Espanyol’s Hector Moreno are in Mexico’s squad for a series of post-season internationals.

The trio are selected alongside Villarreal’s Javier Aquino in Jose Manuel de la Torre’s squad for an international friendly at the end of May, three World Cup qualifiers in June and also the country’s Confederations Cup campaign that follows on in Brazil.

Dos Santos, Moreno and Guardado will all miss their club’s final League game of the season, with De la Torre’s squad called to meet on May 27.

Aquino will miss Villarreal’s final two games in the Segunda Division and the promotion play-offs, should they be involved.

Mexico, currently struggling in their CONCACAF qualification group, face Nigeria in a friendly in the US on May 31 before qualifiers against Jamaica on June 4, Panama on June 7 and Costa Rica on June 11.

La Verde then travel out to Brazil, where they have been drawn in Group A of the Confederations Cup, alongside Italy, Japan and hosts the Selecao.
