Djukic: Mistakes cost us

Miroslav Djukic believes that Real Valladolid’s mistakes were the difference on Sunday evening in defeat at Barcelona.

Valladolid fell to an early Pedro Rodriguez goal and an own goal from Marc Valiente, with Victor Perez’ last-minute penalty no more than a consolation in a 2-1 defeat.

“Here my team worked well, closed out the passing lanes and covered the pitch well, but we lacked aggressiveness with both goals conceded,” reflected Djukic post-match.

“We presented them with these gifts and you cannot do that against a team like Barca, they punish you immediately. It is very difficult to stay focused for 90 minutes against a team with this possession.

“In the end there have been mistakes, but you cannot blame anyone, they have made a great effort.

“There were some errors that we cannot afford and must avoid, but nothing can be criticised, because they have put in a great effort and we have been a great team, as we have been through the season.

“Barca are a great team. They are producing great football. They had a setback in the Champions League, but that could have been for many reasons, just as having now won the League, not maintaining that same intensity.”
