‘Our ‘keepers don’t like it either’

Imanol Agirretxe says he has even annoyed Real Sociedad’s goalkeepers for previously trying to lob them as he did Valencia’s Diego Alves on Sunday.

Stoppage time in Week 33’s clash between La Real and Los Che saw Agirretxe latch on to a loose ball to run through clear on goal, where he chipped Alves for the final goal in his team’s 4-2 win.

Considering the strike today, the forward admitted that even his own team’s goalkeepers don’t like him trying it in training against them.

“When I took the ball, I looked around, to see what I needed to do, but I was clear in what I wanted to do and it ended up alright,” summed up Agirretxe this week.

“During training here we usually have quite a few fights with the goalkeepers because they also dislike the chips too.

“So you have to keep them in mind too. But for me, it was a special night, to score and to win.

“I have scored more beautiful goals, but, adding all the circumstances of the game, how important it was and what had happened prior, it was one of the most beautiful and important.

“This season we have had good games and I have scored some pretty important goals, that I cannot forget.

“It was one of my best games but also that of the team. This year we are playing some great games, that will remain in the memory.”
