Vela: Valencia important but…

Carlos Vela has reflected on the worth of Real Sociedad’s meeting with Valencia, but says that it is no more important than the five games that follow on.

Heading into Week 33, La Real play host to Los Che in a battle between fourth and fifth in La Liga in a game billed as a potential decider for the fourth and final Champions League qualification spot.

For the Anoeta hosts’ striker, though, perspective has been offered.

“I think we all know it will be an important game, but it is not definitive, because there are still points to play for afterwards and I think that the 15 points available to follow will be important,” Vela told reporters this week.

“Of course if we get the win then I think we will reach a good advantage over our rivals, so hopefully we can achieve the win.

“They are the team that are right behind us and it would be very good to beat them, but I must insist that there are points to win afterwards and they are as important as those available on Sunday, and if we win this weekend and lose after then our objective will not be achieved.”

Vela is La Real’s top scorer this season with 13, but he has not scored in his last two outings.

“Of course I want to score and even more so for coming into what is an important game we play at home.

“There is the desire to contribute to the team even more so than normal and hopefully I can score a goal or at least play well and help my team to victory, which is what really counts.”
