Valladolid ask for Valencia replay

Real Valladolid are reportedly going to ask the Spanish Football Federation to replay the final few moments of their game with Valencia.

Controversy surrounds the closing stages of the weekend fixture, when a throw-in awarded to Valladolid was taken by Valencia, ahead of a move that then led to Jonas’ match-winning header in stoppage time.

Reports in Spain are that the club are intent on appealing the decision in any way possible and will take a case to the RFEF today based on article 28 of the Royal Decree of Sport, asking to repeat the play in question, i.e. the final 57 seconds of the game.

A precedent does exist, say El Norte de Castilla, when FIFA ordered a 2006 World Cup qualifier between Uzbekistan and Bahrain to be replayed after an obvious officiating error.

Yesterday, President Carlos Suarez told Marca that Valladolid are considering all options.

“I do not know whether there is any real chance to claim anything,” Suarez reflected.

“If there is any chance that the regulations provide us with then we will have to exercise our rights, whether or not we know what the outcome will be.

“It’s tough because we believe that the team had gotten back into the game, what they were doing – even in the second half, except for the first five minutes – they were better with the 10 men and at the very least deserved the draw.

“Thereafter, in a move that everyone has seen, the game was decided at the end.”
