‘Valencia complicate the simple’

Ernesto Valverde admitted that Valencia made it difficult for themselves in defeating Real Valladolid on Sunday evening.

Los Che had a one-man advantage for the final half an hour of play after Henrique Sereno’s second yellow, but required a last-gasp Jonas goal to win the tie 2-1.

“It was a strange game that we deserved to win, then we have the penalty that Soldado missed at the start of the second half. Thereafter the game has become uphill and we rushed things,” Valverde mused afterwards.

“Against 10 men, we have played well against Granada and Deportivo, but sometimes, with the advantage on the scoreboard, if the game seems simple, we always complicate life.

“Our interest in games has to be at a high pace.”

Valverde was asked for comment on President Manuel Llorente’s resignation on Friday.

“Now there is a small power vacuum but we insist that we are thinking only about Espanyol.”
