‘Every game vital for Real’

Imanol Agirretxe has admitted that Real Sociedad can afford few mistakes if they are to have any chance of holding on to fourth spot.

The Basques have spent the recent international break in the fourth and final Champions League qualification spot, after a run of form that has elevated them up the table.

“Clearly now every game is important, some against some direct rivals, and we must not falter if we are to stay up there,” Agirretxe reflected to reporters this week.

“Hopefully this season we can end it well.

“When talking early season about objectives, I think it is worthless, because where you have to prove what you can do and what you can fight for is on the pitch.

“Now we are in the top four, thanks to our form, and I will say that we want to round of this season that so far we are doing very well in.

“Champions League qualification? Clearly we are in a good position and that is a dream for everyone, but it is a dream and that does not mean we will achieve it.

“It is going to be very difficult because we are fighting against teams that will not make mistakes, and we have to have as few mistakes as possible too.”

The club are closing in on the 3,000 goals mark in the League.

“I have wanted to score any goal, the 2098th, 2099th or 3002nd. I do not care.

“I want to keep scoring goals and help the team get three points, because these final few games are of great importance.”

The team travel out to Espanyol on Sunday evening.

“Definitely yes both clubs arrive for this game in a good moment. Since the first round meeting between us, both have improved.

“They, after a coaching change, are moving forward, picking up points in games during the second half of the season. And we are well positioned up there, having picked up a lot of points.”
