Karanka: Madrid respect Mallorca

Aitor Karanka has offered brief comment on Real Madrid’s Champions League draw, before drawing focus to their League test with Mallorca.

Los Blancos have been drawn against Turkish giants Galatasaray in the quarter-finals of the European competition, and in today’s Press conference, Karanka was asked for his reaction.

“If they are in the quarter-finals then it is for something. Galatasaray have an experienced squad and are a tough quarter-final opponent,” commented the assistant Coach.

“It’s going to be a complicated play-off because they have important players, greats like [Didier] Drogba, and there’s a fantastic atmosphere in their stadium.

“But, we have League games until then and so there will be time to speak of them and study the opponent.”

Madrid host 18th place Mallorca this weekend, enjoying a recent up-turn in form.

“The team is in good form, playing really well. We are confident. We are reaching the end of the season playing well. We are working to keep it that way.

“Mallorca are coming into this off the back of two straight wins and they are moving closer to survival. We will be at the best we can, but we will have to be cautious.

“We will fall into a mistake if we think that by having eliminated Barcelona and Manchester United from cup competitions that we can win this game.

“The League is not going to be neglected by us, much like no competition is.”
