Berdyev happy for win

Rubin Kazan’s extra-time 2-0 win over Levante in the Europa League Last 16 second leg left their Coach Kurban Berdyev a happy man.

The Russians were taken to extra time after a second leg goalless 90 minutes to match the 0-0 from the first leg last week, before goals from Salomon Rondon and Vladimir Dyadyun settled the tie.

“I am very happy for the victory. We had hoped to progress,” enthused Berdyev post-match.

“I’m very pleased that the boys were able to seize the opportunities that came their way in extra time.

“Space increased between Levante’s lines and I told my players to take advantage of those gaps and send more passes into the space, which eventually turned out well.

“Overall, both teams were evenly matched. Levante caused us more danger in the first leg.”
