JIM ‘very proud of players’

Juan Ignacio Martinez reflected on his pride at his Levante players as their first ever Europa League season came to a close yesterday.

Following on from a goalless first leg last week in Spain, Los Granotes played out another 0-0 with Rubin Kazan in the Last 16 second leg, before being eliminated in extra time to two late goals.

“I’m very proud of my players. We are crestfallen, but at the same time we must be very proud of the progress of the team,” commented Martinez post-match.

“We have had a brilliant Europa League. We lacked the goal scored back in Valencia that would have changed the tie.

“We have not been below Rubin, we knew it would be a very tactical game, we have not been overwhelmed nor overpowered.”
