‘Betis, La Real a breath of fresh air’

Pepe Mel is looking forward to Real Betis’ trip to Real Sociedad this Sunday, as it is between two sides he calls ‘a breath of fresh air to football’.

The pair head into their Week 26 meeting occupying sixth and seventh respectively in La Liga, and so both in with a chance of European competition.

“I think we are two evenly matched teams in a similar situation and with the joy of being ahead in the table,” Mel reflected in his Press conference this week.

“I think this will be an attractive game because we are two teams that play in a similar way. We will not play defensively. If we tried to do that, we’d probably cause ourselves a lot of problems.

“I starting by saying that we are two evenly matched team, every time the ball is in our midfield it goes forward, because people like Vela, Griezmann, Chory, Xabi Prieto and Agirretxe are comparable to Campbell, Juan Carlos, Pabon, Ruben Castro, Molina…

“We play with a lot of people in front of the ball, with individuals in one-on-one situations and speed, and I think who will most benefit will be the viewer.

“Real seem a very serious club, who are working very professionally. They know their limitations and what they are capable of. Historically they are a club with their credentials, which are having homegrown players and doing well.

“Real is, next to Betis and Rayo Vallecano, a breath of fresh air for football.”
