Manzano back at Mallorca

Former Mallorca tactician Gregorio Manzano has returned for a third stint at the club, replacing Joaquin Caparros.

The island outfit split with Caparros after Week 22 and are embroiled in a fight against relegation, currently sitting 19th, four points adrift of safety.

Initial reports in Spain suggested that Llorenc Serra Ferrer was returning to familiar names in seeking out a replacement Coach, with Manzano and another former Coach in Fernando Vazquez rumoured as in talks.

Tuesday morning has seen the club act fast and confirm that they have reached an agreement in principle for 56-year-old Manzano to return for a third spell on the bench.

Manzano has previously worked with the club in 2002-03 and again from 2006 to 2010. He took the team to a fifth-place finish in the 2009-10 season, only to leave at its conclusion to due the club’s financial difficulties.

To return to Iberostar Stadium now, it is understood that Manzano was pushing for a contract through to the end of next season. A Press conference has been called for 1pm local time, where he will be presented to the media.
