Pique: Bring on Madrid!

Gerard Pique is already looking forward to Barcelona’s semi-final opponents after the team’s quarter-final win over Malaga.

A 4-2 win on the night saw Barca edge Malaga 6-4 on aggregate in their Copa del Rey last eight, setting up a semi-final clash for the Catalans with Real Madrid.

“We knew that it was going to be a difficult match and we had to win. Now we have a great semi-final against Madrid, we’ll see who wins,” enthused Pique at full-time.

“Their goalkeepers? Casillas is the captain and the emblem of Madrid, he’s already shown his quality. Adan is also a very good keeper.

“It’s exciting because it’s a Cup semi-final and because if you win you go onto the final. It’s one of the most attractive matches of the year and we have been lucky enough to play it these past couple of years.

“First we have to play against Madrid, they will still be dangerous even though they will be missing important players.”

Pique celebrated the birth of his son this week with his team’s second goal of the night.

“I didn’t think I would score so soon, I’m very content and happy, especially because we made it through to the next round.

“We came here to play great football, and that happened in the second half and in the end we got a good result.

“We knew that it would be a complicated match and that’s exactly what it was. We tried to control the ball, even though the match got a bit crazy at times but I think the result is fair.”
