‘Sevilla struggled before dismissals’

Unai Emery admitted that Sevilla were struggling to break through Real Zaragoza, before the opponents were reduced to 10 men.

Los Nervionenses ran out 4-0 winners over nine-man Zaragoza at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan to secure a place in the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey.

However, as Emery conceded, the game wasn’t always in the home side’s favour.

“The game can be divided into phases – 11 against 11, 11 against 10 and 11 against nine and for the phases we have progressed for doing more,” analysed Emery after Wednesday evening’s game.

“But, we struggled to break through Zaragoza when it was 11 against 11.

“The nice thing for us is to be in the semi-final. Both potential opponents [Betis and Atletico] are very difficult, different, whilst right now the advantage is Atletico’s.

“We now have to look for consistency in both the Cup and League. Every chance we get to compete we have to seize it.

“The Cup is a nice way to excite the supporters, but the League cannot be disregarded because it counts in the end and is a way to do things consistently.”
