Barca not closed to Valdes

Barcelona will reportedly give Victor Valdes until the end of the season to change his mind about renewing his contract.

The ‘keeper was confirmed by the club last week as having made clear his intention to not extend his current deal beyond its June 2014 expiry.

Whilst this included not even considering Barca’s terms for a new contract, the club are reported by Mundo Deportivo as intent on leaving the door open for the 31-year-old to change his mind and they quote a club source as making clear that the club do not believe they can find a better alternative in the market.

Barca have been linked with a summer move to replace Valdes, should he not re-sign, with Pepe Reina, David de Gea, Vicente Guaita, Thibaut Courtois and Ter Stegen all among a long list of shot-stoppers since paired with potential transfers to the Camp Nou.
