Soldado: Valencia were thrashed

Roberto Soldado saw little positive to his Valencia side’s defeat at home to Real Madrid, suggesting that it was the worst performance since he has been there.

The striker was on the wrong end of the 5-0 result on Sunday evening and his frustration was evident at full-time.

“They were a far superior opponent to us and that left us powerless to do anything,” lamented Soldado afterwards.

“We have been given a thrashing and we did not expect it, because we were looking forward to this match.

“In the ninth minute we conceded the first goal, the team continued trying until the 35th minute, but from that moment on it was a disaster, every ball we lost turned into a goal.

“Now we have to raise ourselves and not let it disrupt the momentum that we had.”

Valencia appeared in sharp contrast to just a few days ago at the Bernabeu in the first leg of the two sides’ Copa del Rey quarter-final.

“It was a very different performance. The team has had the ball, but Madrid has managed to wait for us and every time we lost it, their players would be attacking and they have been able to take advantage.

“They were very strong on the counter-attack and we have not been able to fight it.

“We had expectations to get a result and instead it has been the opposite. It might be the worst game since I have been here, in front of an opponent who has been far superior.

“We have to try and make sure this affects us as little as possible.”
