Valencia’s Adil Rami has half-joked that he can’t comment on yesterday’s referee as he does not want to pay the fine that would follow.
Los Che lost 2-0 on Tuesday evening to Real Madrid in the first leg of their Copa del Rey quarter-final, amid complaints over the qualify and bias of the match officiating.
“I am wary of taking questions on referees because I do not want to pay a €1,500 fine,” commented the Frenchman when pressed on the controversy.
“It’s our fault because we lost 2-0, whilst we had our own chances. We made some mistakes at the back, but we played a very good game overall.
“I think back to a few months ago, as in Malaga, where we were thrashed and had no play or force in us, and yesterday we lost the game with strength and heart.
“If we continue like this we can do many things well.”
Valencia’s first chance to show that they can do things well playing like that comes against Madrid again, this time in the League, when the capital side visit Mestalla on Sunday evening.
“We must win and we can, we are at home and that plays in our favour. We all know that this is a very important game for us to get into the Champions League qualification positions again.
“Because of this, we know we have to win.”
