Del Bosque: Messi is brilliant

Vicente del Bosque has reflected on Lionel Messi’s ability, as well as current relations between Barcelona and Real Madrid players in the Spain squad.

Earlier this month Del Bosque won the 2012 FIFA Ballon d’Or award for Coach of the Year, just as Messi picked up a historic fourth consecutive award for Player of the Year.

“Messi is the guy playing in the street, the one who fools everyone. He’d do great everywhere. He’s brilliant, period,” enthused the Coach, when asked to comment on the Argentine in an interview with the Spanish Football Federation.

Del Bosque also reflected on the 2011 series of Clasicos that saw Barcelona and Real Madrid players clash and almost damage relations in the Spanish national team.

“They were not uplifting episodes from the past, but they are already in the memory. They are old things and now it is better news.

“It is good, too, that these relations have been restored and developed in the best way, so we can operate normally, which is always desirable when extremism is what sells and when the mess created leads to permanent confrontation.”
