Casillas: Win good for morale

Iker Casillas reflected on Real Madrid’s difficult run of fixtures in the Cup, but reflected that the win this week over Valencia was important for morale.

Madrid are 18 points behind Barcelona in the League, but look set to progress to the Copa del Rey semi-finals thanks to a first leg quarter-final win over Valencia last night.

“Since we played the game at home it was important to keep a clean sheet. Valencia are a tough team and I am convinced that the return leg will be complicated,” goalkeeper Casillas told reporters afterwards.

“We suffered, but the result is excellent and we have joy and enthusiasm to conclude the tie. We have a complicated journey in the Cup and we know it.

“We have the return leg in Valencia to begin with and then a hypothetical clash with Barcelona or Malaga, who are both doing well.

“But this victory gives us morale and lets us take away some of the thorns of the League.”
