Michel: My players are distracted

Michel Gonzalez has reflected that Sevilla’s defeat at home to Mallorca last night was the result of too many transfer rumours about his playing staff.

A number of players at the club have been linked with moves away, in light of speculation surrounding the club’s need to balance the books.

In losing 2-1 to Mallorca in the second leg of the Copa del Rey, Michel’s side may still have progressed 6-2 on aggregate, but he had a warning for his men.

“The positive is that we have progressed to the next round. However, some players were distracted,” he noted to reporters afterwards.

“Our idea is that each must represent this club and always push to win. This game did not invite much, it was cold, but we have moved on to the next round.

“It is true that there are players who are a little distracted by rumours of possible sales, but they should be distracted, they must realise that the offers are not news, only rumours.

“I am in constant communication with sporting director Monchi of comings and goings, but they are distracted.”
