Mourinho ‘lied’ over no-show

AS are running the line that Real Madrid Coach Jose Mourinho missed the Ballon d’Or gala for a reason other than he had originally stated.

The Portuguese commented at the weekend that he would not be attending the event in Zurich on Monday evening as he would instead be preparing for the team’s midweek Cup match with Celta Vigo.

Mourinho was nominated for the Coach of the Year award, subsequently handed to Spain boss Vicente del Bosque, whilst a number of Madrid’s players and their President Florentino Perez did attend.

Madrid-based publication AS, however, allege that Mourinho was not working on the upcoming Celta game as he stated, instead taking the afternoon off to watch his son train at local youth side CD Canillas.

AS back up their case with a video of the Coach’s presence there, whilst suggesting that his non-attendance at the Ballon d’Or ceremony was ‘an institutional snub’.
