Real Madrid defender Marcelo has returned to training ahead of schedule after fracturing his metatarsal.
The Brazilian suffered the injury on international duty in October. He was then operated on by specialist Dr Van Dijk in Amsterdam, who subsequently travelled to Madrid to check up on his patient’s progress.
The club have confirmed that Marcelo took part in today’s session ahead of Wednesday’s Copa del Rey return with Celta Vigo. It is a timely boost for the Merengues, who are in the midst of a defensive crisis with Pepe, Sergio Ramos, Raul Albiol and Fabio Coentrao all missing yesterday’s 4-3 win over Real Sociedad.
Cristiano Ronaldo, who will find out this evening if he has won the Ballon d’Or , had a brief individual session with fitness Coach Rui Faria before leaving for Zurich.
