Mallorca delight Caparros

Joaquin Caparros believes he has rediscovered Mallorca in the last two rounds of League action, after a difficult run of form.

The club endured a lengthy winless streak through autumn and winter that saw them battling at the wrong end of the table.

However, the island outfit followed up Week 17’s win at Real Betis with a draw in Week 18 at home to Atletico Madrid, much to their Coach’s delight.

“This team is competitive again and has managed to get four points against opponents ranked well in the table, in Betis and Atletico Madrid. Now if Giovani had scored…” rued Caparros, in reference to the Mexican’s free-kick that came back off the post.

“Mallorca were a team, we have our shortcomings, that is true, but we had pride to find the equaliser against a great team like Atletico, who, do not forget, are second in the table.

“We must maintain our consistency and competitiveness in the League because there is a lot of equality in it.

“We are recovering players who were injured and that is very good because it increases competition in the squad.

“Today I have to congratulate my players and although it is true that we could have won the game at the end, the truth is that Atletico also hit the post, we played out a difficult game.”
