Barcelona preparing statement

Barcelona are set to make a statement later today as media speculation continues to grow around the health of Coach Tito Vilanova.

In late November 2011, the then-assistant Coach to Pep Guardiola underwent surgery to remove a tumour that had been discovered on his parotid gland, the largest of the salivary glands.

Vilanova was back leading training at Barcelona just over two weeks after the procedure and has since replaced Guardiola as Coach at the club.

However, speculation in the Spanish media today is that the 44-year-old has suffered a relapse of his illness.

Barcelona announced on Wednesday morning that they have cancelled all media obligations for the day and that they will release a further statement later today.

Vilanova has taken Barca on a club and League record start to the 2012-13 season, picking up 46 of a possible 48 points from the first 16 rounds of action.
