‘Real hope for more than survival’

Xabi Prieto believes that Real Sociedad are capable of extending their improved League form and can aim for more than just avoiding relegation.

The team are undefeated from their last four games in La Liga and have moved into the top half of the table as a result.

“We cannot ask for any more, the team are achieving the objective of winning games and with a good image and we were very satisfied with the performance at Valencia,” commented captain Prieto.

“We will continue to hold on to the target of going game by game, we know that we have a good team and that we can do nice things.

“Hopefully we can do more than just guarantee survival this season.”

The midfielder played a key role in last weekend’s win at Mestalla.

“I enjoyed it and found myself comfortable. I do not know if it were my best game of the season, though, as I have felt good in other games, where we have had the ball and dominated.

“We knew that this game was important, though, because we could not allow the midweek Cup defeat to disrupt our League form.

“That elimination was a disappointment, but we had no choice but to maintain our winning run in the League.”

In trying to maintain their winning run even further, next up in the League for La Real is Getafe.

“We face a team that come into this in good form, it will not be easy, but we hope to play well, put in a good performance.”

Prieto also revealed his belief that Philippe Montanier’s decision to place more attacking players in the starting XI in recent weeks is the reason behind their improved form.

“With many offensive players, Montanier has many options, the other day he opted for people who feel comfortable on the ball and it worked out well, which is something similar to what happened in Malaga.”
