Caparros: My players are anxious

Joaquin Caparros believes that an over-anxious approach from his players is why Mallorca’s winless streak in La Liga is dragging on.

The island outfit could only draw at home to 10-man Real Zaragoza, after missing a first-half penalty and needing an 85th-minute goal to record the eventual 1-1 result.

For their Coach, the extension of their winless run in the top flight to nine games is the result of the players’ over-eagerness translating into nerves.

“We ran out of time to find the winning goal, but the players have an anxiety to change the current run of form and are rushing things,” commented Caparros after the draw on Sunday.

“They want to offer a win to the fans, to end the streak that has seen us add just two points from the last 27 available, but they are arriving in games with a state of anxiety that cannot lead to anything good.

“We had many chances, indeed the goal of Victor [a header] was modelled on previous plays, but that we did not score from.

“We had no time left in the second half and I’m left with the control and fight of my players, who gave everything to change the form.

“The only way to change things is to work to the limit to achieve our goals.”
