Griezmann regrets France trip

Antoine Griezmann has reflected on his trip that earned him a 13-month ban from the French national team as ‘acting on a whim…’

The Real Sociedad attacker was one of five Under-21 players who left October’s French training camp in the north of the country for a night out in Paris.

This was done after the team’s European Championship qualifying play-off first leg win over Norway and just days before the second leg, which the team eventually lost.

Griezmann and his teammates were handed heavy bans from national duty and for the 21-year-old, it was a mistake he soon knew he had made.

“I was acting on a whim…it was not until after that I realised this really was an error,” he told L’Equipe today.

“We realised what we had done when returning back to the camp. I take full blame and accept the punishment handed to me.”
