Real Betis boss Pepe Mel has admitted the Copa del Rey is a special tournament for him personally.

Betis, enthused by their shock 1-0 victory over Real Madrid on Saturday, take on Real Valladolid in the second leg of their last 32 tie at the Estadio Benito Villamarin tomorrow.

The Verdiblancos lost the first leg 1-0 earlier this month.

“The Cup is a different competition,” Mel told journalists. “One that pleases me personally because it’s been good to me, so I have the ambition of going as far as possible.”

Mel will be without Damien Perquis, Paulao, Angel and Juan Carlos, and fatigue could also be an issue.

“I will play the best team I can, but it would be foolish to bet on a player that is only 60 per cent. Benat [Extebarria] is very tired but there is Ruben Perez, Nono, many who can play.”
