Alves picks up fourth injury

Dani Alves is facing another spell on the sidelines this season for Barcelona, with the club confirming that he has again damaged his hamstring.

The Brazilian full-back was forced off inside the opening 15 minutes of his team’s eventual 4-0 win at Levante on Sunday evening and it is now confirmed that he suffered a grade I tear of his right hamstring.

Tests carried out on the player on Monday determined the extent of the injury, which is the fourth such misfortune to hit the player this season already.

Alves suffered a similar strain to his hamstring in warming up for the second leg of the Supercopa de Espana at the start of the campaign, before also withdrawing from games against Valencia and Real Madrid in the League with the same complaint.

The player has been ruled out for a period of between two and three weeks, meaning he will likely miss fixtures with Alaves, Athletic Bilbao, Benfica, Real Betis and Atletico Madrid.

Barca are also without Marc Bartra, Marc Muniesa, David Villa, Isaac Cuenca, Alexis Sanchez and Eric Abidal.
