Defensive solidity was essential in Real Valladolid’s 1-0 win over Granada, says Coach Miroslav Djukic.

The newly promoted club narrowly got the better of their Andalusian visitors at the Estadio Nuevo Jose Zorrilla last night, Manucho’s goal midway through the second half settling it.

It was an especially important result for Djukic’s side seeing as they are entering a difficult sequence of fixtures, with Barcelona and Real Madrid to come in December.

“We had difficulty finding the way,” the Serb remarked in front of members of the media. “Granada fell back and we could not find space. We had possession, but couldn’t connect with our forwards.

“Defensive solidity was the key. The team suffered but never broke down. Manucho took his opportunity and was confident.”

Djukic stressed the importance of maintaining a good record at the Zorrilla, where three of the Pucela’s five wins this season have come.

“Today’s victory is especially significant as it comes at home. Our connection with our fans is very important and we have to make our home a fortress.”
